Requirements

Students may be exempt from up to three non–EOC tested course exams per semester for classes in which they meet the following requirements.

In order to be eligible to exempt an exam, students must…

  • be present in class on the exam days when attendance is taken.
  • have a minimum cumulative semester average of 85 in that class.
  • have no more than 2 absences that semester from that class.*^
  • have no obligations.

Please be aware that…

* For exemption purposes only, three tardies count as an absence in all classes no matter where they occur across the schedule.

^ Juniors and Seniors may have up to four absences when two absences are the absences allowed for visiting colleges and universities. Only two days for college visits are allowed per school year. Reminder:  By District attendance policy, notes should be turned into the attendance office within 48 hours.

Students will be required to take the first semester exams in the fall in all EOC subjects; however, they will not be required to take a spring semester final in EOC subjects.

General Guidelines

  • Since students are expected to be in attendance on the days they are scheduled for an exam, if a student is absent and must miss taking an exam, then the student must schedule a make-up exam with the teacher. A grade of 1 will be placed in the grade book pending make-up of that exam. (Make-up exams need to be completed before class rank is recalculated for juniors and seniors.)
  • The exams exempted second semester shall not be for the same courses that were exempted the first semester.
  • For exemption purposes only, three tardies count as an absence in all classes no matter where they occur across the schedule.
  • All obligations must be cleared before students are eligible for exemptions. (parking violations, library fees, textbooks, etc.)
  • Students must have an overall average of 85 for the first three marking periods.  [(MP4+MP5+MP6)/3≥85]
  • Students must return textbooks to the Textbook Coordinator (Room 1400) and have the coordinator sign the exemption form. Exemption forms must be signed by the textbook coordinator whether studens have books to return or not.

Final Exam Exemption Timeline

  • May 3: Check for obligations. Students will receive an email notifying them of their obligations. Obligation lists will also be posted in the 1200 cafeteria, 1100 hallway close to the bus lane, 100 student center & 700 cafeteria windows.
  • May 3-10: Clear obligations, as needed. If students’ names are on the obligation list, then they will need to complete the following steps.
