U.S. Patent Granted to RRHS Senior, Class of 2020

RRHS senior William Henry Chase Drake was granted a U.S. Patent for devices he invented to protect tuba/euphonium/marching instrument bells from scratches.  U.S. Patent No. 10,580,392 entitled “DEVICE TO PROTECT AN EDGE OF AN OBJECT” was published March 3, 2020.  According to RRHS engineering teacher Ashima Saksena, Chase is the very first student at RRHS and RRISD to apply for and be awarded a patent.  Chase invented the devices immediately following his freshman year at RRHS and applied for the patent in April 2018.  CTMS band directors Tracey Redus and Jared Adams have been using the devices on their honor band tubas and euphoniums since 2018, as are several former and current RRHS students, and even one RRHS principal who was an All-state tuba player!  Please be sure to congratulate this Dragon!
