Class of 2023 Academic Advising Plan
The academic advising plan for our ninth-grade students will consist of three parts:
Step 1:
Parent Night – The counseling team will provide parents the opportunity to learn more about Four-Year planning by offering the following sessions:
- Graduation Requirements and Endorsements
- Career Searches, Volunteering, and Extracurricular Activities
- College Searches, Scholarships, and SAT/ACT Test Prep
There will also be several teachers representing advanced academics as well as some specialty elective courses.
Parent Night will take place on Tuesday, January 21st, from 6-8 pm in the 1100 Cafeteria.
Step 2:
Student Advising – The counseling team will be conducting classroom guidance lessons during the week of January 27th to help students review/update their Four-Year Plan. During this lesson, a team of counselors will review graduation requirements, endorsements, and college/career planning.
Step 3:
Parent Appointment Week – During the week of February 24th, parents that have questions about their student’s Four-Year Plan will have the opportunity to sign up for an appointment with their counselor. Details about how to sign up will be sent out in the next few weeks in a Dragon Blast.
Upon completion of this process, a Course Verification sheet will be sent out with the student’s course requests for the 2020-2021 school year. Parents and students will have the opportunity to make changes at this point (early March).
The Counseling Team is committed to providing our students and parents with all the necessary information needed to make decisions about their academic future. Please reach out to your student’s counselor with any questions.
