Community Service through 3D Printing
Three RRHS seniors are serving their community during the pandemic by 3D printing ear guards and face shields for medical personnel and others working on the front lines. Chase Drake began 3D printing these April 5th and to date has made 2500+ ear guards and 70 face shields. Errett Corbiere and Cesar Hernandez joined the effort shortly thereafter, and combined they have provided a total of 3250+ ear guards and 130 face shields to front line workers at St. David’s Round Rock Hospital, Dell Children’s Medical Center, Ascension Seton Medical Center, 2 HEB’s, various other hospitals/clinics/emergency centers/doctor’s offices/EMS, RRPD, nursing homes, military personnel, a Chick-Fil-A, Starbucks, and RRISD food service employees. Folks wearing masks with elastic straps can attach the elastic to the ear guards and adjust for good fit, thus preventing their ears from getting sore when wearing masks for long periods of time. The face shields conserve PPE (personal protective equipment) which has been in short supply.
