RRHS Quiz Bowl Success!!
Congratulations to the following representatives of the RRHS Quiz Bowl team for their performance in our virtual tournament this past Saturday, May 2, 2022. Our division featured 12 teams from coast to coast. The team started the day with a 4-0 streak–the best starting streak in club history!–only giving up their first loss to the team that ended up placing 3rd overall. We suffered from mental fatigue in the back half of the day but still ended 7-4, tying for 4th overall in our division.
It is noteworthy that only one of the players had ever participated in a real tournament before (the available tournaments have been few and far between since the start of the pandemic) and two of them were late adds to the roster that morning after some other players dropped out at the last minute. Some highlights:
- Violet Gibson, 11th grade, Co-Captain, was the 6th highest individual scorer overall in the entire tournament field (out of 44 players!) despite playing 40 fewer questions than some of the students ranked above her.
- Ryan Good, 12th grade, Co-Captain, was the 3rd highest individual scorer in American Literature and tied for 4th highest individual scorer in Fine Arts.
- Ian Choi, 12th grade, who had never played a round of Quiz Bowl before Saturday, ranked in the top 15 overall for several science sub-categories (with his special thanks to Mr. Morgan for the astronomy knowledge).
- Sattwik Padhi, 10th grade, brought the knowledge of all the subjects the upperclassmen had forgotten (such as biology, middle-grade literature, and mythology). He tied for 3rd overall in Young Reader Literature.
Congratulations! Go Rock!
