SMART Tag Information

Round Rock ISD Transportation utilizes the SMART tag system to record when students load and unload the bus, providing real-time information to the Transportation department, campuses and parents.

The SMART tag Parent Portal allows parents to view their child’s assigned bus information, ridership activity and set up SMART alerts for when the bus is approximately 10 minutes from the scheduled bus stop.

Additionally, all transportation notifications such as late bus alerts or route change notifications are sent through the SMART tag system.

Parents are encouraged to register to use the Parent Portal to receive Bus/Route information and alerts concerning pick up, drop off and other alerts sent out.

After Parents register through the Parent Portal, ONLY students can request a Smart Tag.  Students must request one through a computer/laptop with their student email (@student.roundrockisd.org). It will not work on a mobile device because mobile devices revert to personal email addresses.  We require this for safety reasons and to protect our systems from randomly generated request. 

Every RRISD student that rides a bus will need to have a tag.

If your student forgets their Smart Tag or is waiting for their Smart Tag to be delivered, they MUST go to their Alpha Office to request a Day Pass before 4:00 pm. The buses will not allow students to ride the bus home in the afternoon, without their Smart Tag or this pass.

All students who need a temporary pass will be able to receive one for the following reasons:

*I forgot my Smart Tag at home

*I lost my Smart Tag

*I am waiting for my replacement

If a student has not had more than 3 temporary passess. After the third request for a temporary tag has been made, we will deny any further requests, and the student must submit for a replacement tag. At this point, students must make arrangements to find a ride home. (please warn the student upon the 3rd temporary pass).

If the student has LOST their Smart Tag, a replacement request must be submitted. We have Smart Tag QR codes posted in all Alpha Offices and the Main Office. Once a Smart Tag request has been submitted, a $5 fee will be assessed. We will still charge $5 even if the student finds their Smart Tag later.

Replacement cards can be requested through the campus office. There is a $5.00 fee to replace SMART tag cards. Replacement cards include the SMART tag and clear plastic sleeve. A lanyard, badge reel or zip tie are not included.
